It's Gonna be Sick!
There’s a new music night in Liverpool which is Sick!
Hosted at Liverpool’s Zanzibar club and spilt over two floors “Sick!” features some of the best local talent in the area. The evening’s entertainment will be headlined by Polly Mackey and the Pleasure Principle who received rave reviews when they played the prestigious SXSW music festival in Texas earlier this year. In addition Polly and her band also bagged themselves a slot at the Benicassim music festival, securing a place on stage alongside the likes of Oasis, The Kings Of Leon and Franz Ferdinand . There’s no doubt that Polly has exactly what it takes to become a major star, her literate thought provoking songs are brought to life by Polly’s incredible voice and are further complimented by her band The Pleasure Principle. This is a great chance to catch Polly and the guys perform in an intimate setting before she takes the music world by storm.
Professional MC, actress and model Bernadette McBride will be hosting the show, introducing each band with a brief biography and thereby ensuring that the audience know who’s who. Also on the bill are Marc Riley favourites, the fabulous Run Toto Run, playing their only November Liverpool gig. Lead singer Rachael has been described by the Liverpool Echo as having “the single most beautiful voice you are likely to hear this year."
Tripped out Alt folksters Bagheera who are tipped by everyone from "BBC Introducing" to Steve Lamacq will be gracing the stage alongside popular local live favourites The Mono LPs . Completing the line up with their special brand of cheeky punk pop are Town Bike.
Between and after the bands there will be a DJ playing anthems old and new, and rather aptly, given Mozza's recent trouble in scouse land ,the featured artist this month will be The Smiths / Morrissey. No need to bring a bottle this time though folks!
Upstairs things will be a little more chilled with acoustic and folk bands. With the sort of timing that would make a Swiss watchmaker blush a system will be in place to ensure that when a band finishes downstairs, a set will begin upstairs - so in theory it is possible to see all 14 bands on the bill without needing to bend the fabric of time.
Maxi Dunn will be launching her self-financed album "Welcome to Soonville" as well as playing a rare live performance. In addition “Sick!” is pleased to have The Big I Am and Cathy Hayden on the bill.
It promises to be one “Sick!” night out !!
