Today, 4AD have launched a new section on their website - 4AD - Sessions - a dedicated home to exclusive live sessions from artists on the label. The video recordings will see 4AD artists performing back-catalogue covers and alternative versions of their own material.
Following on from the Deerhunter session last year at the Platts Eyott studio on the bank of the Thames, the label have returned to the same venue to capture new signing Tune-Yards perform five tracks for the inaugural video session.
As an artist that thrives so thoroughly in a live setting, Tune-Yards was the ideal candidate to begin the sessions with, an artist whose performances are as intense as they are intricate. Possessing an expansive sound that marries a coarse folk ingenuity with the bold pop sensibility of an R&B siren, Tune-Yards lynchpin Merrill Garbus is joined by Nate Brenner for this inauguratory session ahead of the release of Tune-Yards' debut album, Bird-Brains, on November 16th.
