After a storming launch last Friday with guest DJ Andy Carroll; Fantasy Island - a new series of free monthly Balearic parties at Camino - the Spanish bar and restaurant in King’s Cross - returns on Friday 27th November with not one, but two guest DJs Phil Mison and Pete Herbert. And the best bit - as you gear up for Christmas - is that entrance won’t cost you a penny as it’s free all night.
Every month Fantasy Island will bring you the very best in Balearic beats and feature an array of DJs firmly associated with Ibiza, in addition to Camino’s great food, atmosphere and drinks. Whether you’re attending straight after work or making Fantasy Island your destination of choice for the evening, you won’t be disappointed as you can eat tapas at the bar, have a sit down meal in the restaurant, simply drink, dance or even brave the winter chills by making the most of the amazing outdoor courtyard.
Tucked away in the heart of King’s Cross, Camino will be hosting five forthcomingFantasy Island events until March 2010. Alongside the free parties will be a special New Year’s Eve spectacular, featuring Loft / Body and Soul resident DJ Cosmo playing a special Balearic set, and the stunning live band Latin Dub Soundsystem.
Phil Mison aka Cantoma is a producer, songwriter, musician and Balearic DJ sound pioneer. He currently records as Reverso 68 and Frontera with Pete Herbert, who is one-half of just about every disco-centric group worth talking about such as Bakazou, Frontera and L.S.B. Herbert is also a producer. Between them they’ll be joining the dots between disco, Balearic, house, Italo, rare grooves, never heard noises, Afro-Cuban, tropical sounds, and electronica aplenty.
Richard Norris was first journalist to write about the Balearic scene in the UK music press, when NME ran his article on Ibiza in the late eighties. He was also in The Grid, who released a string of hit dance singles including the million-selling ‘Swamp Thing’. Richard has DJ’ed in Ibiza at Manumission, Space, the Underground, Manumission Motel and the Rock Bar. He was a panellist at 2008 and 2009’s Ibiza International Music Conference, regularly DJs around Europe, and records with Erol Alkan as Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, and as a solo artist as The Time and Space Machine (Tirk Records). The Grid’s ‘Floatation’ - a Balearic classic - will soon be re-released on New State.
There will be a free 11 track promo CD ‘Viva Camino Vol 3: Fantasy Island; 100% Balearic Beats’, compiled by Richard, available free for the first 100 people on each night. The CD features tracks from the cream of the new European Balearic scene.
Fantasy Island mixes legendary pioneers of the Balearic genre with the current breed of artists and DJs inspired by the sound.
Fantasy Island would like to thank Sagres.
