by jack s [More from this Author]  As a sneak peek into his fourth album due in 2010, Emmanuel Jal is releasing a new single this winter. The track called ?We Fall?, produced by Silvastone, featuring a soaring-soulful vocalist, McKenzie Eddy and guitarist Sean O?Connell of Brooklyn-based Voodoo Farm, will be up on Jal?s MySpace page December 2.
As a gift to his fans around the world, the musician will make the song available to download from http://www.myspace.com/emmanueljal free of charge.
The download will serve as a two-way favour between Jal and the supporters of his music and activism.
?I am releasing this song as a free download to say ?thank you? to everyone who donated to Gua Africa,? he said. ?Everyone who listens and enjoys it can also go to Welcome to GUA Africa and donate.?
It will be exactly 1 year to the day on December 2nd since Jal started his challenging fast; the artist is eating one meal a day in an attempt to raise funds for Gua Africa, or more specifically for the charity?s school building project in Leer, South Sudan. Phase 1 of the project, which includes renovation of the existing primary school and construction of five extra classrooms, has begun.
Posting the song on MySpace presents an easy way to track the amount of downloads, and has a potential to create a buzz in the mainstream, the musician said.
The idea for the track was born when Jal met Fisher Stevens, a successful actor, director and producer, in New York in October. Both participated in the United Nations Day 2009 Concert to Honour United Nations Peacekeeping; Jal was performing and Stevens was producing the show. Stevens introduced Jal to Damon Dash, an American label executive specializing almost exclusively in hip-hop music; a co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records with Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Kareem "Biggs" Burke. UK-based rapper. Blak Twang, and Silvastone were also in attendance. Dash immediately suggested a recording session and a few minutes later all were in the studio.
McKenzie Eddy and Sean O'Connell of Voodoo Farm were introduced to Jal and his team at the new BlakRoc building in Tribeca, New York, where the studio was located. BlakRoc is the name of Dash?s project, a collaboration between rockers, The Black Keys, and rappers such as Mos Def, Q-Tip, Ludacris, and Raekwon, to name a few. It is there the song was co-written by Emmanuel Jal, and Mckenzie, and later back in London further contributions by Blak Twang.
