Tickets for The Flaming Lips’ previously announced London show at The Troxy sold out almost immediately after being released. Now public demand has lead to the confirmation of a second show at the 1930s art deco venue.
The band’s UK tour – set to follow the September release of their eagerly anticipated new double album ‘Embryonic’ – runs as below:
November
10th – London, The Troxy (sold out)
11th – London, The Troxy (added date)
13th – Portsmouth, Guildhall
15th – Glasgow, O2 Academy
16th – Manchester, Academy
17th – Birmingham, Academy
Tickets are on sale now at a price of £25 for London, £20 for Glasgow and £20 for all other regional dates.
Support on all dates comes from Stardeath and White Dwarfs who number Wayne Coyne’s nephew Dennis among their ranks and who will be making their UK live debut with these shows. They’ve already been compared to “Band of Horses or My Morning Jacket if they were on 90s Warp” by The Guardian and will release their debut album ‘The Birth’ on September 14th.
The Flaming Lips are currently putting the finishing touches to ‘Embryonic’. Much of the new material set for inclusion on the album has evolved from extended jam sessions.
The band’s last album ‘At War With The Mystics’ earned the Oklahoma trio their second and third Grammy Awards as well as a Brit nomination for Best International Act. It continued the band’s run of critically acclaimed albums that have also included ‘The Soft Bulletin’ and ‘Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots’. ‘At War With The Mystics’ was followed by the band’s ‘Fantastical Film Freakout’ entitled ‘Christmas On Mars’ as well as their debut live DVD ‘UFOs At The Zoo’.
The Flaming Lips recently earned an unconventional honour when their classic track ‘Do You Realize??’ was named the Official Rock Song of Oklahoma.
