Batteries not Included & more, Sat 5th Dec @ The Quad, LSE
The Freakquency Beepshow is a new monthly night featuring the best in indie, electro, pop and rock at the London School of Economics’ student union The Quad. And although the 1,000 capacity, three-roomed club night is in a student union, The Freakquency Beep Show is open to everyone, including the discounted bar prices! Which, let’s face it, is just what you need as you watch the pennies before Christmas and the New Year. The date for your diary is Saturday 5th December and as entry is a mere fiver before 11pm, it won’t break the bank either.
This is probably going to be one of the capitals biggest club nights. Every week special guest DJs will come together to bring you the finest rock’n’roll in town with appearances from the hottest live bands. All beers are priced at £1.20 and doubles at £2.
The launch night will feature electro funk live act Spektrum, superremixer and producer Cooks DJ, Southend-on-Sea’s The Kool Kids Klub, club promoters Batteries Not Included and Rhythm Is A Prancer, with club terrors The Backstage Sluts who will go back to back withLSE’s Union DJs.
Spektrum will be performing live in Room 1 and are hard to pigeonhole. The London electronic four-piece have been described as post apocalyptic disco funk and music for a new generation of people who thought they heard it all... They are responsible for the huge electro club hit ‘May Day’ and burst onto the scene in 2003 courtesy of Tiefschwarz’s club smashing remix of their single ‘Kinda New’. Their latest album release is ‘Live at the Gymkhana’.
Cooks DJ has remixed the Dead Kids (‘Snakes’) and Make The Girl Dance, in addition to supporting Yo! Majesty and Dels (Moshi Moshi) on tour as their official DJ. He has also been hired for catwalk shows by Balenciaga and Gareth Pugh and is often billed with, and compared to Proxy, Crookers, Diplo, Sebastian (Ed Banger) and more... Cooks DJ is also working on his own material to be released next year. As a DJ he is twisted electro at its best, if you have not seen this man create his scratch madness behind the decks you’re in for a treat.
The Kool Kids Klub started two years ago by a couple of Essex mates who were frustrated with the cheesy nightclubs in their area. The spiritual home of the night takes place in the Sunrooms hotel basement in Southend-in-Sea, the third Saturday of every month. The Kool Kids Klub is now a five boy tag-team set against the backdrop of boy racers and an overriding lack of taste, but keeps its finger on the pulse and delivers the latest in underground trends to those looking for something cool in Essex. Expect dubstep, jump-up-rave, basslines, B-more, Baile funk, electro/fidget house, and lots of other electronic noises from DJs Sonic Wale, That Boy Kana, Scum Kid and Alexander. They’ll be bringing a slice of Essex with a taste of the east and transporting it to West End.
The Kool Kids Klub have been gathering large momentum with their DJ sets around the UK taking in London, Brighton and Nottingham, in addition to sets in Ibiza and festivals such as 1234, Offset and Field Day.
Backstage Sluts are Dj’s and the bad boys of breaks. The infamous Prodigy Tour DJ’s take on the Union Boys. Expect things to get dirty and twisted.
Batteries Not Included will be hosting Room 2 where you can expect to hear the very best in indie, electro, rock and pop, starring Jimmy Mixtape and Sam Detention. Expect the unexpected.
Finally, Rhythm is a Prancer host Room 3 with resident DJs Intimacy Heartbrek, Madanna and I’ve got the T’Pauer. They are simply the best 90’s revival night in London playing pop, rock and dance music. They’ll make you dance, sing and maybe even cry.
Come and feel the Freakquency as you’re every whim is catered for in what is going to be a great night and excellent value for money. It’s the sound of the city, the best festival moments you never had and dancing til your feet pop. The freshest sounds mixed with classic tunes, The Freakquency Beepshow will become the soundtrack of your weekend.
