Lower Than Atlantis to release Debut Album on Wolf At Your Door

December 01, 2009: Herts crew secure label home for debut album

Hertfordshire area punk/post-hardcore crossover crew LOWER THAN ATLANTIS will team up with rising UK independent imprint A WOLF AT YOUR DOOR RECORDS for the release of their debut album, ‘FAR Q’.Having spent the majority of 2009 holed up in bedrooms and rehearsal spots, writing and demoing the twelve brand new tracks that comprise this first full length, Lower Than Atlantis spent three weeks of long nights throughout September and October in a printing factory in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, recording their creations with the assistance of skilled newcomer producer/engineer Daniel Lancaster.

With work on the self-financed album complete, Lower Than Atlantis sought out a suitable label home for the release, eventually striking up a partnership with independent label A Wolf At Your Door Records.

“We wanted to work with a label that really believes in these songs and who understand where we are coming from as a band,”
says singer/guitarist Mike Duce; “We have done everything connected with this album ourselves so we’re really precious about it, but the guys at WAYD seemed to really get who we have become and where we are headed, and like they would take good care of the release.”

On behalf of A Wolf At Your Door Records, label manager Leo Nicholas spoke about the newly forged relationship with Lower Than Atlantis

“From hearing the initial demos, there was no question that we wanted to work with the band and the new record. Although the pre production mix was raw it was easy to hear how pertinent, modern and ultimately vital this record is going to be, we are stoked to be working with a band with such an honest and un-apologetic ethos to their music.”

An energetic and compelling collection of angular guitars, infectious hooks and incisive lyricisms, ‘FAR Q’ will be released via Wolf At your Door on MARCH 29th, 2010, preceded by single ‘TAPING SONGS OFF THE RADIO’ on 01st MARCH, 2010.

LOWER THAN ATLANTIS Biography:

2009 has been a year of progression, growth and change for UK trio Lower Than Atlantis. Since January, where LTA were halfway through the gigging cycle for their then recently released mini album ‘Bretton’, the Hertfordshire area based band have gone through no less than three bassists and two drummers - not to mention, most significantly, a musical rebirth of Goliathian proportions.

With the instability of their line-up threatening a return the ‘real world’ for the band, Lower Than Atlantis’ creative core - vocalist/guitarist Mike Duce and guitarist Ben Sansom – were pushed into a cocoon of forced introspection and reflection. Fortunately, the encroaching danger that their beloved band might be collapsing around them had an unexpectedly positive effect on the young songwriters, as the twosome found themselves reconnecting with their truest musical influences and taking stock of the harsh reality that was fast surrounding them – a UK in the clutches of recession, its youth bored, in debt and out of work.

Simultaneously re-inspired, angered and afraid, Lower Than Atlantis recruited drummer Eddy Thrower and set about creating their debut full length album ‘FAR Q’, a collection of songs that sees the trio completing an unintended but wholly positive metamorphosis.

Creatively inspired by such eclectic artists as Nirvana, Jimmy Eat World, Go It Alone, Foo Fighters, American Football, Title Fight and Blink 182, ‘FAR Q’ is a powerhouse of urgency and punk catharsis seamlessly blended with infectious melody and reverence for the simple, persuasive power of ‘the Song’. Meanwhile, the album’s erudite lyrical narrative is like an open vein, frontman Duce passing comment on everything around him, from his own personal struggles and day-to-day experiences through to the state of the country he is growing up in.

Indeed, were it not for the band name linking them to their past, Lower Than Atlantis are a new beast entire as they look ahead into 2010. ‘FAR Q’ will be unveiled in March and the rejuvenated trio (plus touring bassist) are positively bursting to hit the road in its support.

Watch this space and forget what you’ve heard, for things are about to get seriously interesting for Lower Than Atlantis.
