The Music Producers Guild Awards, which recognises the skill and talents of music recording professionals, took place last night at the Cafe de Paris in London.
The top award for Producer of the Year – which also earns its winner a BRIT Award for Best Producer – went to Paul Epworth, who produced & co-wrote with Florence and the Machine on her debut album Lungs. Florence attended the ceremony to present Paul with both his Music Producers Guild and BRIT Awards.
In 2009 Paul also worked with Friendly Fires, The Big Pink, notably on their epic single Dominoes and co-wrote and produced Jack Penate’s Everything Is New album, which saw a host of sounds, from African rhythms to 60s balladry, all brought together into one cohesive musical tapestry. He’s recently been melding soul, rock and hip hop producing the soon-to-be-massive album from Plan B.
Few can claim to have definitively designed a whole generation of artists’ music. But that’s what Paul Epworth’s CV can legitimately boast: his work with the likes of Florence And The Machine, Bloc Party, Jack Penate, Friendly Fires, Kate Nash, The Futureheads and dozens more underlines the fact that he above any other producer has helped steer British music forwardover the last decade.
Paul recently signed his own solo artist deal with Columbia and is starting work on his own solo album for release later this year.
