New York City Singer Lach is bringing The Antihoot to Webster Hall

New York City Singer Lach is bringing The Antihoot to Webster Hall
Renowned New York City singer/songwriter Lach, the legendary founder of the Antifolk movement, will be bringing NYC's longest running open stage, The Antihoot, to Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street, NYC) every Tuesday night beginning March 23rd. Doors open at 7pm. Performers should arrive by 7:30 to sign-up to perform. Show starts at 8pm. Admission is free. Age limit is 18+ (21+ with ID to drink). In addition, beginning March 24th and every Wednesday thereafter "Lach Presents…" will feature five acts for five bucks; bringing Webster Hall back to the East Village where it belongs!

"Lach is the mastermind of Antifolk like a Lower East Side rendezvous of Bob Dylan and Patti Smith. Like black snow, stalled subway cars and random violence, Lach is a Manhattan institution."- NY Times
As a songwriter Lach founded the Antifolk art and music movement centered out of his weekly Antihoots. Lach is sited as a main inspiration by hundreds of performers today and everyone from Beck to The Moldy Peaches to Regina Spektor in the USA to Laura Marling, Emmy The Great and Milk Kan in the UK have taken their turns playing at the Antihoots. Faces in the crowd over the years have included such stars as Bob Dylan, Meryl Streep, and Liv Tyler.

"A vital New York club scene." – Billboard

" Lach's Antihoot drips with honesty…creating a nice family feeling for misfits. " – The Village Voice

The Antihoot started in the mid-eighties out of Lach's Rivington Street loft which he converted into an after-hours music venue called The Fort. There the Antifolk scene was born. Over the ensuing years The Fort inhabited various other NYC nightspots such as Tramps, Sophie's Bar, Chameleon Club and lastly the Sidewalk Café where Lach ran the scene for well over a decade. A little over a year ago Lach left Sidewalk to pursue other projects including recording a new album with the renowned British songwriter Neal Halstead (of Slowdive and Mojave 3) and developing a one-man show that will headline this summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival's most prestigious venue, The Gilded Balloon.

" Lach - one of the originators, and one of the sharpest arrows of the New York Antifolk scene. A Lach show is rarely less than a face-ache funny, beat-punk-unplugged joy, and likely to send you home with several favourite new songs"- The Guardian UK.

Hearing of Lach's departure from Sidewalk the owners of Webster Hall contacted Lach and asked if he'd be interested in bringing the Antihoot to their venue. After seeing the beautiful renovation of NYC's landmark nightclub Lach got quite excited by the possibilities. Let's let Lach tell it…

" Webster Hall is amazing. The history of the place alone is enough to make me want to be a part of it. The place dates back to the 1800's as a union hall. In the thirties Al Capone hung out there, in the fifties and sixties it was the home of RCA. Sinatra, Dylan, Presley all recorded in there. Then it was The Ritz. So many people have amazing memories of shows they saw there but for me I'll never forget Black Flag causing a joyous riot and Cyndi Lauper channeling the spirit of Al Jolson just a few weeks before Girls Just Wanna Have Fun hit the charts. Over the last year they've done a wonderful renovation of the club restoring it to it's 1930's art deco grandeur especially in the room I'll be running called The Marlin Room. It's like stepping into an old Hollywood version of a New York nightclub. It's very exciting as this is the first time the room's been opened up to live performance and to be able to mix that atmosphere with the spirit of Antifolk and other true, new music and performance scenes is an opportunity I just couldn't resist."

There you have it. Lach's Antihoot is back every Tuesday Night beginning March 23rd at Webster Hall and every Wednesday night "Lach Presents…" will feature five acts for five bucks starting on March 24th with : The Fools, Chink Floyd, Ching Chong Song, Rav Shmuel and Don McCloskey.
