In an exclusive documentary produced by GMG Radio, presented by Terry Underhill and being broadcast nationwide across the Real Radio, Smooth Radio and Rock Radio networks this weekend, Rolling Stones legend Mick Jagger talks about performing live, future plans for the Stones to tour and the reason he can’t be bothered with social networking sites.
Much has changed since the band initially rose to fame in the sixties. Not least the advent of online interaction via social networking sites. Mick feels it’s about striking a fine balance between embracing technology and not becoming obsessed by it; “One of the problems is there’s so many access points to being online that if you don’t watch out you’re never going to have any time to do anything else there’s so many gadgets and so many networking sites and there’s so much you can do.”
He continues; “I have to hire a special assistant to do my Facebook site and my Twitter site and I can’t be bothered! You know I really can’t, you’ve got to draw the line somewhere and say ok I’m not gonna’ do that.”
His volatile relationship with band mate Keith Richards has been well documented although Mick Jagger tells GMG Radio the reason they don’t see each other so much these days has more to do with geographical location than reluctance to catch up. He explains; “Keith lives in the country in Connecticut (USA) so I don’t really get there very much, where as Charlie and Ronnie I can see in London more or less anytime I want.”
With high adrenalin performances does Mick struggle on stage aged 67? He tells GMG Radio; “After I’ve finished I don’t always feel like a 20 year old! Part of knowing if you’re fit or not is knowing how tired you get at the end. You might be tired for 5 minutes, you feel really wiped out and then you should be recovered in 30 minutes and you should feel absolutely fine and if you don’t then you’re not very fit basically.”
So, having grossed over half a billion dollars performing live, do the Stones plan to tour again? Mick confirms; “I’m sure we will. It would be stupid to say there won’t be another Stones tour because I love doing them and I always imagine there would be another Stones tour. When that’s going to be I don’t really know at this point.”
The Mick Jagger documentary can be heard across the Real Radio, Smooth Radio and Rock Radio Network this Bank Holiday weekend.
