Gotan Project and El Guincho soundtrack the World Cup.
Over the next 4 weeks, Africa Express and music store Rough Trade East will celebrate the FIFA World Cup with a series of in-store match screenings fused with African inspired live performances and DJ sets.
Working with Africa Express, Rough Trade will host performances by Cheikh Lô (Senegal), Muntu Valdo (Cameroon) Afrika Boy (Nigeria) and M3NSA (Ghana) & Richy Pitch, while the DJs include Damon Albarn, Honest Jons, Philipe Cohen-Solal (Gotan Project), Spain's El Guincho and the hotly tipped French duo Jamaica to perform in-store with key matches. More names will be announced as the tournament progresses.

The East London store, world-famous for its legendary in-store gigs is creating a uniquely celebratory environment for the music loving football supporter…
  • Matches will be shown on a giant on-stage screen, 2.5m2, using the very latest HD satellite and projection technology
  • Artists will perform for half an hour in the build up to kick-off, after which they will play at half time and following the final whistle
  • DJ’s will mix live commentary into bespoke live sets, creating an authentic cultural atmosphere for the teams playing, e.g. El Guincho is creating a set that fuses Spanish and South American influence for the Spain v Chile match on Friday 25th June
The next screening will be on Thursday 17th June, where Jamaica will add their breezy electro tone to the France v Mexico match, KO 7.30pm BST.

Rough Trade matches/artists/DJ’s will be announced via Rough Trade’s website (OpenDNS) and Twitter, @roughtradeshops.

For a truly original, celebratory, authentic audio-visual spectacle during this World Cup, Rough Trade East takes some beating…
