Already championed by the likes of Q Magazine and BBC 6Music due to their gloriously unpredictable live show, HOODLUMS release their second single ‘Dark Horses’ along with B-side ‘Ends of the Earth’ (physical and digital format) on January 30th via Blow The Whistle Recordings. Frontman Lou Vainglorious explains the concept behind the single, Dark Horses was written for anyone who can be their own worst enemy. For the voice inside your head that tells you you’re not good enough. For those who love themselves and hate themselves in equal measure.....and for those that keep on running because they are afraid to slow down."

Originating from Southend, the London-based band first attracted attention when they were invited to open for Suede on the Britpop kings’ intimate comeback shows at London’s 100 Club and The Ritz in Manchester. A string of festival appearances at Hop Farm, Secret Garden Party and Rockness followed, where frontman Lou Vainglorious took a songwriting masterclass from Blondie’s Chris Stein. Continuing their run of success the band went on to sell out three of their own London shows at The Lexington, Cargo and Dalston Boys Club.

Their track, ‘Not A Love Song’ featured on Fierce Panda’s new talent EP, ‘Zip It Up’ before HOODLUMS embarked on writing and recording new material at London’s famous RAK Studios & Leeders Farm in rural Norfolk.

First single, ‘Landmarks’ featured in Q’s Essential 50 and Track of the Day. New single, ‘Dark Horses’ is anthemic indie-pop at its finest, full of foreboding undertones. The verses combine a simple yet effective drum-beat with an enticing piano line before escalating into a euphoric chorus full of impressive vocals sweeping in and out of falsetto. The sound is cool and contemporary but with a massive pop sensibility and crossover appeal.

Operating under a motif of, “Songs for the Outsiders, The forgotten sons and daughters”, HOODLUMS – completed by NickPini (double bass), TinoKolarides (guitar), HenryTyler (drums) and Andy Highmore (piano) – are immediately accessible, mixing influences from Echo & The Bunnymen, with a smidgeon of The Verve and a touch of TheCure into their bold new sound.
