The Canadian sibling duo of Elise and David Commanthe, better known as Au Palais, caused ripples last autumn with the release of their debut EP – the beautifully austere and compelling “Tender Mercy” EP. Their otherworldly take on haunted, freaked electronic pop, complete with emotionally fraught undertow and Elise’s fallen angel vocals, has won them ardent admirers with the likes of Pitchfork, The Fader, Guardian and NME, and announced the arrival of an exciting new talent.

Au Palais have been hard at work since, with the band relocating from Toronto to London to put the finishing touches on their forthcoming debut album, rumoured to be preceded by a concept EP. In the meantime, they’re hitting UK and Europe for dates through the summer, alongside similarly idiosyncratic contemporaries such as Grimes, Peaking Lights and AlunaGeorge. They are also releasing their version of the Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood classic “Some Velvet Morning”, which takes on the 60s classic and reworks it so it sounds like the futuristic sound of a new dawn, with Elise’s sultry vocals skimming over the surface of David’s palpitating beats, only to collide and soar during the chorus.
