Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color is the new album from Brother Ali and finds him reborn and rejuvenated. After embarking on a pilgrimage to Mecca, the Muslim rapper, inspired by his journey entered the studio, this time linking up with Seattle’s Jake One (50 Cent, De La Soul, T.I., Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa) to produce his fourth album.
Mourning... is a poignant, meditative work retaining Brother Ali’s candid personal style with thoughtful, blunt observations on the socio-economic and political systems entrenched in America. But yes, it’s still funky as hell, anchored by Jake One’s pounding beats utilizing martial drums, electric guitars and vocal samples.
The album's main theme is about finding a sense of unity amidst the chaos of the current American political system. It's about unifying individuals that are otherwise disenfranchised by creating a sense of community and understanding. A community where we are able to see ourselves in each other and are willing to acknowledge and respect our differences.
