Epitomising the phenomena of the global gathering, Portugal’s biennial Boom Festival kicks off once again for its ninth edition, taking place around the stunning shores of a lake Idanha-a-Nova from 28th July until 4th August.
The event invites some 30,000 people from across the globe for a truly epic, eight-day experience as it celebrates its fifteenth anniversary. Boom is absolutely unique, bringing together the very best in alternative culture, music and art alongside addressing environmental and human concern.
Described in a recent TED talk as on of the world’s few ‘Transformational Festivals’ Boom has become a meeting point between counter culture and consciousness, for all true festival lovers, this is an experience not to be missed.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY:
From dance-music shindig to trans-global Mecca – the Boom goes far beyond the confines of just a music festival. Its meticulous production pivots around an environmental program, geared towards taking the whole event completely off grid. Initiatives including composting toilets, waste vegetable oil-powered generators and development of of photovoltaic stations have reaped it awards such as: European Festival Award 1010 (Green ‘n’ Clean Festival of the Year) and Greener Festival Award 2008 and 2010 (Outstanding Prize).

Boom has evolved into a mouthpiece for communicating ground-breaking, powerful information through a rich cultural program dedicated to environmental sustainability, knowledge, activism, art, music, healing and spirituality. Vandana Shiva became one of the most important speakers during Boom 2010.

The Liminal Village at Boom 2012 presents a program of workshops, interactive talks, discussion panels, presentations and paradigm films; a platform for films and documentaries revolving around the themes of ecology, ethics, love, activism, economy, psychedelica and science, as well as a gallery for visionary art the ‘Third Eye Gallery’
Highlights include Daniel Pinchbeck who will be giving a talk on the global shift in consciousness in 2012 and beyond. Nepali artist, Romio Shreshtha explains the power of healing behind Tibetan enlightenment art.
THE HEALING AREA:
The Healing Area is a place to re-balance and re-connect with a series of workshops comprising: daily yoga, meditation, chakra balancing, reiki, sound journeys, massage therapy and a host of other holistic practices.

Old school Goa trance mavericks, X-Dream and Manmademan kick-start the euphoria of those early days with that legendary Goa-licious synth sound of yore. Last but not least, expect the freshest sounds cross-spectrum from the likes of Tristan, Avalon, Liquid Ross, The First Stone, Zen Mechanics, Dick Trevor, Illegal Machines, Kindzadza and Ace Ventura.
