After a brutal two years for a demographic weighted with fee hikes, protests and riots, the summer of 2012 will flip expectations when a group of London students celebrate the power of great ideas and original thinking at Brainchild Festival.

Brainchild doesn't focus is not on headliners, big acts or solely music. For Brainchild, it’s all about nurturing and supporting the local artists that build up the young musical landscape in Britain, taking a risk and being empowered by the topics that are actually relevant to the younger generation.

Marina Blake,19 year old English Literature student at UCL, dared to dream big when she decided to create a platform for her most creative and accomplished friends. From musicians previously known for conducting toy piano orchestras to poets inspired by magical-realism, Brainchild promises to be every bit the miasma of free thought that Ms Blake thunk up. ???Of course, this isn?t a solo effort. Marina enlisted the help of student promoters Frozen Thumb and student bloggers Crack In The Road to help book live bands and DJs that would turn this into much more than a TED conference with artists from RnB cult sensation Pandr Eyez to European superstars The Skywalkers along with DJ sets from the likes of Peace & Dub and TRI:BAL.

The spoken word lineup comes courtesy of Bridget Minamore, (20, also UCL) an accomplished poet herself having been recently featured in The Huffington Post on IW Day and currently completing a “£100 challenge” for The Guardian. Bridget enlisted such big names in the spoken word scene as Jodi Ann Bickley who?s recently been collaborating with Dubstep idol Skream.

Socially conscious comedy groupLampoon Apathy soon got involved in providing the funnies, while Dangerous Ideas stepped in to provide Idea Rallies from “The Politics of Graffiti” to “The Art of Video Games”. But really this festival is a story of young people and their conviction to empower themselves, despite the media?s constant assertion that they are all just looking for a free ride.

So, let's celebrate it, eh?
