826 National Teams up with Wilco and Out of Print
 

826 National, the nonprofit youth literacy organization founded by award-winning author Dave Eggers, has teamed up with the band Wilco and t-shirt company Out of Print to promote and raise funds to support youth literacy. Starting today Out of Print will offer a limited edition shirt for sale, which will benefit writing programs for thousands of underserved youth in Brooklyn and Chicago.


The new Out of Print shirt features a graphic of the original Don Quixote book cover designed by the artist Edward McKnight Kauffer in the 1950s. The back of the shirt features a design by Miguel Herrera of Houston who won an open design contest inspired by the band Wilco. Participants had a limited time to conceptualize and design a graphic based on the following quote from Don Quixote selected by Jeff Tweedy: “...I can no more remember one syllable of it than the shapes of last year's clouds.”

The shirt will be sold with a copy of Wilco’s latest CD, The Whole Love for $32. A significant portion of the proceeds will be donated to 826 National to support its Brooklyn and Chicago chapters.

“We’re so grateful to Wilco and Out of Print Clothing for turning a project that celebrates reading and writing into a benefit for 826 chapters and the students we serve in Brooklyn and Chicago,” said 826 National CEO Gerald Richards.
