New musical comedy critters The Midnight Beast roar onto the scene with their debut self-titled album, out August 13th on their own label Sounds Like Good.

Part high jinx, part music, part comedy and part nothing you’ve ever heard before, it’s like Flight of the Conchords hanging out with the Inbetweeners in a London high-rise as the Beastie Boys spin some tunes. Almost.

YouTube sensations, with 48 million hits to their name, south-west Londoners Stefan Abingdon, Dru Wakely and Ashley Horne are fast on their way to becoming small screen superstars. And they’re buffing their claws ready for action.

Dru is the percussive tour de force, Ashley plays bass and Stefan’s on guitar; they write pop songs which they have taken to Glastonbury (playing just before Ke$ha), Reading and Leeds (where they headlined the Festival Republic Tent and were voted one of NME.com’s favourite acts, ahead of The Strokes and 30 Seconds To Mars), Underage Festival, Big Chill and Edinburgh Fringe.

WATCH // 'Quirky'

Doling out fifteen tracks of the very catchiest musical comedy on an LP which features ditties from the show including ‘I Kicked a Shark In The Face’ and ‘Quirky’, ‘The Midnight Beast’ also collects tracks from the trio’s back catalogue - among these ‘Daddy’ and ‘Booty Call’ – and was written and produced at Stefan’s parents’ house.

After detonating their very own viral bomb back in December 2009 –‘Tik Tok’; a hilarious parody of the K$ha song – TMB (for short) have since had two sold-out tours and made headlines in 2011 as the fastest unsigned band to sell out KOKO.

The arrival of new six-part TV series The Midnight Beast – which airs Thursday July 5th on E4 at 10pm – signals the start of the race proper as the trio mix youthful irreverence with musical know-how for six 30-minute episodes which staple together their music and real life experiences.

Produced by Mary Burke for Warp Films (Four Lions, Submarine, This is England 86 & 88) and Cuba Pictures (Boy A), it is, in the words of the band’s own Stefan Abingdon “like a dirty Glee” and will be released on DVD the same day as the album; August 13th.

Each episode will be soundtracked by an EP of two or three songs –with different artwork – and available to download after each show.

The complete album will be available in both a digital format – to download on the day of the final episode – and a physical format, on the August 13th release. Both formats come with added bonus tracks.
