Widely noted as the album’s standout track, on 15th October ‘The River’ becomes the second single to be taken from The Pond’s eponymous debut, coinciding with nationwide tour dates (see below).
‘The River’s' euphoric sparkling pulse is derived from a Pakistani bapang, the “perfect instrument to transport you to the mountains” according to the band. “Writing the words for this felt like putting moving images in my mind” says Kathryn. “ When you try to explain or say things to someone you love, it's always so overwhelming it comes out simple.” ‘The River’ is backed with the atmospheric head remix.

Collectively describing themselves as a ‘democratic mud pit’, The Pond is Kathryn Williams - ‘Without doubt one of the most authentic folk voices in the country’ (Q) – and fellow musicians, Simon Edwards and Ginny Clee, who in The Pond have created a bold psychotropic mix augmenting vintage beats, 60’s pop, tape loops with Celtic & Eastern notes. While comparisons may be drawn with down-tempo artists like Lemon Jelly, Mint Royale and Bent, The Pond’s strong emphasis rests on songs and voices – the interaction between Kathryn & Ginny creating some intoxicating harmonies. Pooling their talents into The Pond’s eponymous debut, the album’s 11 tunes are infused with the warmth and playfulness of its makers – with Adrian Utley’s mix giving the bright, ultra-vivid melodies a positively Bristolian depth and sophistication.
