Stars have premiered their eagerly anticipated new album The North, out September 4 via ATO Records, on NPR's First Listen. The album will stream in its entirety for a week, starting today, here. NPR says the album "rewards exploration with moments that alternately swoon, seethe, swing and paralyze." There is also a kaleidoscopic trailer for the album featuring song snippets and album art. Stars recently announced their Fall North American tour. Diamond Rings and California Wives have been confirmed as opening acts from the first date, September 20 in Portland, ME until the October 20 show in San Francisco. Fans who purchase tickets for any of the US headlining shows will receive a digital copy of the album on release day, and an instant download of "The Theory of Relativity". Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.youarestars.com where there are also a variety of album bundles. The North is also available for pre-order on iTunes now.

Stars are Canada's best-kept secret indie institution. Over the course of more than a decade together, Stars have consistently proven themselves adept at producing incisively sharp, beautifully orchestrated pop music. Their sixth album, The North, is their finest record to date - a culmination of all they have learned and lost; a record of what it is to love today, of how to live a life in music. For many, the band's breakthrough album, 2004's Set Yourself On Fire, defined what Stars truly had to offer. The political, honest and heartfelt songwriting, always twisted in the dual themes of sex and death, appealed to fans in its directness and sincerity. The North is an insistent return to this top form. Twelve years deep, they are making it clear that they are a generational band, a band that will still be here long after other more fashionable acts have faded and a band that without any hype has become one of the most influential and respected acts from North of America.

The North was recorded in Montreal's historic RCA Victor Studios and was produced by Stars, Graham Lessard and Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire).
