They’ve become one of the hottest bands of 2012 and now The Black Keys are getting set to grace the stage at Birmingham’s NIA as part of their December arena tour. Their biggest to date, this tour will see the American rock duo back on UK soil after a host of European shows this summer, including a spot at Reading Festival (26 August).

This tour follows on from a successful couple of years for Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, who originally formed after dropping out of college. Last December they released ‘El Camino’, which debuted at Number 2 in the American Billboard Top 200 and saw them achieve Gold status in the UK, France and USA; in addition to Platinum in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand. Produced by Danger Mouse and The Black Keys, the 11-track album was recorded in the band’s new hometown of Nashville during the spring of 2011. ‘El Camino’ includes the hit single ‘Lonely Boy’, the video for which has been viewed 17 million times on YouTube and nominated for an MTV Music Video Award, as well as ‘Gold On The Ceiling’, which the band recently performed with Johnny Depp at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.

El Camino’ follows the most successful two years in The Black Keys’ career. In May 2010 they released their breakthrough album ‘Brothers’, which won three Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award, and topped numerous year-end lists. The album, which included the hit singles ‘Tighten Up’ and ‘Howlin’ for You’, has been certified Gold in the UK, and Platinum in Canada and the US. Worldwide sales are now over one million and counting. As the NME wrote of the band’s recent UK tour, “The Black Keys have slowly but surely become one of the biggest bands in the world – and going by this wonderfully charged performance, it’s not difficult to understand why.”

The announcement of their NIA show comes alongside that of their new single, ‘Little Black Submarines’, which is set for release on Monday 8 October. To find out more about the show, visit
