The Post-Punk, Early-Wave band A Sky Jet Black have just released the video for their new single 'Out To Sea.' The Noir aesthetic of the video perfectly compliments the songs brooding atmosphere and takes you deep into their dark pop world.
You can watch the video below:
A Sky Jet Black are a three piece Indie-Electro band from Austin, TX with a distinct nod towards the new-wave revivalism of the 70’s and 80’s Manchester scene mixed with some darker Gothic Pop. They are releasing their third studio album on 7”/Digital supported by a UK tour.
Formed in early 2010 with Hope Irish and Karasene on synths and vocals and Tim-o on bass, production and vocals, they locked themselves in the studio for 2 months creating and refining their sound. Isolating themselves from the distractions of the world, their darkly desolate pop sound evolved. Upon re-entering and playing their inaugural show at the infamous Monstrosity House at SXSW, they went into two hectic years of touring and recording with a schedule that could have broken any band. Some of the notable highlights included supporting David J the bassist of Bauhaus/Love and Rockets.
In the studio they were joined by Mike McCarthy whose producer credits include Spoon and …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Their collaboration created intricate sonic textures and expertly reverb soaked vocals that float over driving drum machine rhythms and tight bass riffs. Their sound sits somewhere around Berlin era Bowie with Eno textures, the brooding moods punctuated with warm encompassing synth pads while the up beat drums keep the music from becoming forlorn or lost in its own depths. The perfect balance of pop sensibility and artistic creativity produce a new and refreshing approach to the indie-electronic world.
Half way through ‘I wanna be adored,’ the Stone Roses classic is re-worked into a heavily chorused bass led synth masterpiece. By not approaching it as a straight cover but using the song as a framework to expand the original musical ideas, they fully make it their own.
As the album comes to a fade the bands philosophy echoes on: “an end is important in all things because having a final moment creates the chance to experience at least one instant of mesmerizing clarity and beauty transcending death.” – A Sky Jet Black.
