Once just youngers in the grime scene, Rascals (formerly know as Lil’ Rascals) have come a long way down the music road. The group, made up of MCs Shizz, Tempz, Merkz and singer, Kay Willz, are now signed to Virgin and are on a new leg of their adventure.
Having already dropped visuals for two tracks off the new anticipated mixtape, The Launch Vol.2 was premiered exclusively on SB.TV yesterday and is now available for download via RASCALS official Facebook.
Mixed by DJ Target, The Launch Vol.2 features 13 tracks including 'Ape Shit' and 'What's Going Down' with production from the likes of ILLIONNaires, DaVinChe, Mikey J and Show n Prove.
They've already been getting support from the likes of Max (Choice FM), DJ Target, Cameo, Mistajam (1Xtra), Huw Stephens and Zane Lowe (Radio 1) but Rascals have their heights set higher than you may expect from four teenage boys. Growing up in Bow, east London’s musical melting pot and surrounded by grime luminaries such as Tinchy Stryder, Roll Deep, Ghetts, Dizzee Rascal and Wiley, enabled Rascals to jump in head first and develop their styles, skills and confidence as musicians from a young age, building up a strong fan base for years with free online releases and performances around the UK.
But it's not all just studio and performances for Rascals .. Having been in the industry from a young age, they understand the importance of business too, namely with their wholesome project, Class 90. “That’s our entertainment company,” Kay Willz modestly explains of the record label and publishing arm they’ve constructed with Universal Publishing. It's actually more than that as it also acts as a trust which will be offering funding for young entrepreneurs.
... The lyric, "The scene's dead, it's in need of a makeover. Rascals prepare for the takeover", suddenly seems a whole lot more relevant, huh?
