The hip-hop anthem Peso helped to secure a three million dollar record deal and has over fourteen million YouTube views. When ASAP Rocky walked into Kevin Andreas’ Red Light Studios in Brooklyn no one knew that “Peso” would be such a huge success.
Kevin Andreas is a brilliant singer, songwriter, producer, engineer and virtuosic guitar player. He does all of these things for his bluesy and soulful, rock n roll band Redlight Cinema. RLC is comprised of Kevin, his younger brother Kyle Andreas on drums and Dan Parra on bass. All three are NYC based musicians. Keyboardist Yan Falmagne is also featured on their new album. When Kevin isn’t working on Redlight Cinema’s music he is likely to be found sitting behind his trident console working on and molding other peoples projects.
Andreas says, “ASAP Rocky and I actually worked on a few tracks together. When we worked on “Peso” he came in with the beat and the lyrics. At first Rocky planned on singing the hook himself but he didn’t have a melody and well, he couldn’t sing.” Andreas stepped in and wrote the melody and sang the hook for “Peso”. He also produced and engineered the track. “When Rocky asked me if I had a gunshot sound I said no. I improvised. The “gunshot” that you hear is actually me in a bathroom hitting my brother Kyle’s snare drum.
“It’s strange that ASAP Rocky is using the track that I produced, mixed and mastered and performing all over the world with my voice behind him. I think that it’s really unfortunate that he has not given me any credit. I’d love to make amends, work together again and sing the track live with him.”
Redlight Cinema’s new single “Black Cloud” is currently available on iTunes. The bands second full-length album will be coming out in early 2013. Redlight Cinema, a band that is known for their amazing live performances, will be touring to promote their album during that time.
“At the end of the day I’m an artist. I want the opportunity to create and the chance to have my work resonate with fans. It’s nice to know that “Peso” did, but I hope that will just be a small glimmer in a very long career.”
