Texas Is Funny Records (Heat Dust, Pillow Talk, Yes Inferno) is excited to welcome Diving and Sixteen to its growing roster of bands. At the end of the year, the San Antonio-based label will issue a split CDEP featuring three new songs from both outfits.

Austin, TX's Diving formed in late 2009 and released its debut EP, Places And The Objects You Find There, in December of 2010. Like emo progenitors American Football and The Appleseed Cast, the four piece traverses lush musical soundscapes, thick with atmospheric flourishes, dynamic songwriting and joyfully twisting melodies. The six-track EP is available as a free / pay-what-you-like download at Diving's Bandcamp, or you can purchase the CD version directly from the band. The quartet's songs for the upcoming split were recorded by Jacob Shelton (watch a brief studio update from the sessions here) and mastered by Joie De Vivre's Chris French.

Also established in 2009, Sixteen resides in Bowling Green, KY and boasts a healthy handful of self-released EPs in its catalog. Citing influences such as Braid and Cap'n Jazz, the duo's sound takes a more raucous, punk-tinged approach than its Texas label mates, but the adventurous spirit and freewheeling attitude of '90s Midwestern emo is strong with Sixteen. The band recorded its contributions to the split with Rory Willis of Greyskull Recording. Sixteen has two 2012 EPs - 3 Songs and Now It's Gone - which you can download for free at its Bandcamp.

Stay tuned for upcoming news on the split EP, including song premiers, album art and the launch of pre-orders. Also note that in January, both Diving and Sixteen will be touring in support of the release. Follow Texas Is Funny on Facebook and Twitter for daily updates.
