Stream // OMD - ''Metroland''

Written, recorded, produced and mixed by OMDAndy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys – ambrosial cries herald the start of an expansive, intrepid and uplifting synth-pop odyssey, one grounded by its industrial backbone but also blissful and euphoric as it heads for the sky and beyond.

OMD’s Andy McCluskey says;
“The song is inspired by the early 20th Century London Metropolitan Railway Line campaign slogan to “come and live in Metroland.” So many commuters moved from the smoky capital that the very rural idyll they sought was swamped by miles of mock Tudor suburb. The act of reaching for Utopia destroys it.”
The track has been given the remix treatment by The Manhattan Clique (Lady Gaga, Nelly Furtado, La Roux and Katy Perry), Roger Erikson (Depeche Mode) and Belgium’s Metroland.

Metroland also comes in a 12” single version:

A1) ‘Metroland’ (full album version)
B1) ‘The Great White Silence’ (exclusive to 12")

With technology and space as recurring themes, highlights on the LP range from 'Please Remain Seated' – a 21st re-imagining of Dazzle Ship’s ‘ABC Auto-Industry’ – and ‘Night Cafe' – a homage to Edward Hopper, lyrically made from titles of his paintings – to 'The Future Will Be Silent', a track which spans musical styles to hypnotic effect, among many more.

English Electric is the follow-up to 2010’s A History of Modern and takes its name from a British industrial manufacturing company.

The original four-piece – Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Malcolm Holmes and Martin Cooper – will be reunited once again this spring for a string of must-see shows, which commemorate the band’s 35th anniversary, including London’s Roundhouse May 3rd.
