All-star Colombian ensemble Ondatrópica are set to return to London this spring. Embracing the past, present and future of Colombia’s tropical cumbia sound, the 12 piece band will headline Camden’s Koko on May 31st.
Luminaries from Colombia's musical past like Michi Sarmiento, Juancho Vargas, Wilson Viveros and Jorge Gaviria will join forces on stage with a new breed of young tropicalistas including vocalist Nidia Gongora and the mighty percussionist Chongo from Sidestepper.
A project originally conceived by Will ‘Quantic’ Holland and Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero) Ondatrópica recorded their debut record at Colombia’s famed Discos Fuentes studio early last year. The self-titled album went onto be released via Soundway Records to critical acclaim.
Preserving the vibrant sound of the past and taking it to new heights with modern approaches to production, arrangement and composition, Ondatrópica topped many end of year lists in 2012.
