Metallica and Guns N’ Roses both had surprises in store at this weekend’s Download festival.
Metallica, who headlined on Saturday night, treated fans to a performance of their 1986 classic album ’Master Of Puppets’ in its entirety, taking up the majority of their set. They also managed to squeeze in a new song though, which singer James Hetfield introduced simply as ’The New Song’.
Meanwhile, Sunday night headliners Guns N’ Roses had some special guests in tow. Firstly, they introduced original GNR guitarist Izzy Stradlin, who famously fell out with Axl Rose years ago, on to the stage to play three songs with them.
Then later in the set, Axl brought Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach on to the stage to do ’My Michelle’ with them.
GNR’s set also saw a number of strops and walk-offs by Axl, due to reasons ranging from bottles being thrown to him slipping over on the stage during ’Sweet Child O Mine’.
In general Download news, festival organiser Stuart Galbraith confirmed that this was Download’s first year of completely selling-out and also announced that next year’s will take place on June 8 – 10.
