Smashing Pumpkins in the studio
 

As promised this past April, popular and influential 90s "alternative rock" act Smashing Pumpkins have entered the studio to begin on their first new album since 2000. To date, only Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are confirmed for the project; former Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur has not indicated any participation. According to the band, they have enlisted legendary producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Cars, The Darkness), The slow trickle information began more than a year ago when frontman and primary songwriter/musician Billy Corgan announced the reunion.
