Vice Records has signed the Black Lips. The signing has been rumoured for months, but the label has now made a formal announcement. The Atlanta-based quartet previously released material on Bomp and In The Red including We Did Not Know The Forest Spirit Made The Flowers Grow in 2004 and Let It Bloom in 2005. The band is described as psychedelic garage rock and draws comparisons to genre pioneers like the Sonics and the 13th Floor Elevators. The band recently recorded a live album of their greatest hits and a number of new songs with production duties handled by John Reis of Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes. Black Lips are currently on the road with Be Your Own Pet.
