Acute Prep New Album, Play Paste’s SXSW Party (Wednesday, March 7th, 2007) SoCal quartet, Acute, deal in a few different incarnations of guitar-led indie pop on their Help Records debut, Arms Around A Stranger (out 05/01). The record’s ten tracks nod to the pep and cheer of the Cars, with upbeat rockers like “The City,” while also slowing things down to Bedhead speeds with tracks like the lurching, horn-laced album opener “You Want It! Take It! It’s Yours!” Featuring former members of Poulain and Ozma, Acute has a proven songwriting pedigree. And having just completed a hefty set of dates with Owen and Appleseed Cast on last year’s Death + Taxes tour, they’re completely road-tested. Have a listen to the fuzzy pop guitars, brassy vocals and general Weezer liteness on “Follow You Home,” then take a look at the “Move Along”-inspired video below:
Before unveiling their new record and hitting the road later this year, the band will be performing in Austin at Paste Magazine’s annual party on SATURDAY, March 17th at The Belmont at 12:30pm (To RSVP: Text WIRED to 33992 on your mobile phone).
“Flawlessly delivered and beautifully produced, Selections' intriguing mix of styles, moods, arrangements and themes makes it a bit difficult to get a handle on the band's core sound, but it's sure to pique much interest in their upcoming full-length.” – All Music Guide (on Selections EP)
