(New York, NY, March 21, 2007) 'Black' is definitely back in on this first day of spring as Universal Republic soul newcomer Amy Winehouse surpassed all expectations and rocketed to the #7 spot on Billboard's Top Ten Album chart with her debut album Back To Black. The new album moved 50,888 copies, an impressive opening week entry bowing as one of the week's top sellers in both traditional and digital music domains. The British siren, hailed by Newsweek Magazine as a cross between Billie Holiday and Lauryn Hill, recently reached the #1 plateau in England, snagging the coveted Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist.
Winehouse's brassy mix of emotive vocals tinged with 60's girl-group stylings, sly funk and jazz has fueled songs such as "Rehab," and "You Know I'm No Good," toward the top of R&B and Modern Rock Radio playlists, with the sultry singer's videos quickly becoming staples of VH1 and MTV, as well.
