Cats And Cats And Cats, the four-part male, one-part female, three-timed feline named band are quite something. Beginning in early 2005 the productive young things from Staines have knocked out an EP, an album and two split singles as well as touring with the likes of 65 Days of Static, Youthmovies and even a brief visit to Denmark to play the wonderful Formanova festival. Not bad for a group of youngsters who’ve only just collected their a-level results.

Musically they’re a difficult band to pigeonhole, and that’s exactly the way they like it. Taking elements of the quiet-loud post-rock formula and blending it with distinctive and creative vocals, catchy harmonies and an intelligence well in advance of their years, you never really know quite what to expect from the enigmatic youngsters. One thing you can be sure of is that this band has enough talent to live on for more than the nine lives of a whole bag of cats.

Slightly more mature in years yet equally as musically creative as their counterparts, This Town Needs Guns are no longer Oxford’s best kept secret. Having released a debut single (‘Hippy Jam Fest’ – featuring guest vocals from local friend George Pringle) which sold out promptly upon it’s September 2006 release, a tongue-twisting double a-side digital single (‘Wanna Come Back To My Room And Listen To Belle And Sebastian’ / ‘And I’ll Tell You For Why’) earlier this year, this split album release is the band’s first foray into the world of CD based musical output.

With elements of everyone from Biffy Clyro to American Football to Radiohead to Mineral absorbed into their beautiful piano-lead, jazz-influenced rock, it’s just a matter of time before the whole world stands up and takes notice. When Drowned In Sound said “Forget Radiohead; Oxford is soon to be remembered as the city where this precocious young act began its rise to success” perhaps they weren’t far off the mark? As well as this split CD, 2007 will also see the release of This Town Needs Guns debut album in Japan, via Rallye Records (Klaxons, Au Revoir Simone), featuring an accumulation of all of their recordings to date.

The split CD will be released via Big Scary Monsters Records on 1st October 2007 and the two bands tour together in September to promote the release.
