While some folks were getting all riled up by Ted Nugent’s appearance at the South Dakota State Fair this coming weekend, the New York State Fair was erupting in politics-free mayhem. Speaking of the Projekt Revolution tour (which we have been for the past few days, actually), more than thirty concert-goers suffered mosh-pit injuries at the festival’s stop at the fair in Syracuse on Tuesday night, with at least ten taken to the hospital. After the sold-out concert, headlined by Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday, two people were admitted for broken arms and one for a broken leg. Thirteen-year-old Stephennie Nichols was hospitalized after a “big guy” who was crowd-surfing kicked her in the head. The head of the fair infirmary, David Corey, said the high number of injuries during the two-stage festival was out of the ordinary. “Traditionally, we have a few people to see, but this is unusual,” he told the Associated Press. “It was pandemonium; lots of loud music and bodies slamming around.” Projekt Revolution marked the first all-day music event at the Fair since 1994, and possibly the most ironic in the event’s history: Tuesday was Seniors Day, which typically keeps the medical staff hopping with non-mosh-pit-related emergencies.
