CBGB founder Hilly Kristal died in New York on Tuesday of complications from lung cancer. The New York club, which opened in 1973 and closed in 2006 -- and was run by Kristal throughout its existence -- helped spawn the careers of the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Television, Patti Smith and countless others. He was 75.
