Robbers on High Street are excited to announce a string of national
tour dates in support of their sophomore album, GRAND ANIMALS
(Scratchie/New Line Records), which Spin praised for its "subtle
orchestrations whose airy ambiance hints at the chameleon funk of David
Bowie and the dance-foor minimalism of early B-52's." Beginning
September 21st in Philadelphia, PA, the New York-based band will embark
on back-to-back co-headlining tours with Longwave and Great Northern.
GRAND ANIMALS, which follows the band's critically-acclaimed 2005
debut, TREE CITY, incorporates everything from jazz organs to tubas, to
twangy guitars to handclaps to bolster their melodies, creating a more
complex, more mature sound for Robbers on High Street's sophomore
effort. Along with Alternative Press, Playboy, Performing Songwriter,
Jane and the Los Angeles Tines, The New York Daily News praised GRAND
ANIMALS for "filtering fitful bits of European waltzes, Brazilian bossa
novas and British music hall into their highly structured rock songs,
the Robbers have devised a herky-jerky mélange that catches the ear in
unexpected ways." Entertainment Weekly enjoyed the band's "bittersweet
jangle, boppy harmonics [and] Cool Britannia cadences" while URB
Magazine, which featured Robbers on High Street as one of their "Next
100" bands to break in 2007, proclaimed the new album to be "a shining
amalgamation of what good rock can be." USA
Today.com recently
spotlighted the band as "One to Watch", writing "if you haven't heard
of Robbers on High Street, then it's a good time to take a listen ...
their tunes are catchy and jangly, demonstrating witty lyricism, and
range from playlist - worthy toe-tappers to light-hearted ballads."
