After weeks of speculation (and some really poor secret-keeping by, well, everyone involved), it’s official: Britney Spears will perform new single “Gimme More” to open Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas with some help from illusionist Criss Angel. “Some of the biggest TV performances [of her career] have been at the VMAs,” the show’s executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic told MTV News (Rock Daily pointed this out, as well). “I wanted her to come on and make a statement right from the very beginning of the show. And she’ll kill it. She’ll captivate everyone, and set the tone for the rest of the night.
