Professionally speaking, Britney Spears is having one crappy week. Things were bad during her relatively halcyon Paris-hanging, panty-flashing, head-shaving days, but now her career is in serious danger. After turning out what is now widely considered to be a shiteous performance Sunday night at MTV’s VMAs, it was open season on Spears.
Tuesday, Tori Amos rattled off a verse dedicated to Britney that boasted the refrain, “When a star falls down, when a star falls down.” Wednesday, word broke that Timbaland thinks Spears should apologize to him and Justin Timberlake for bailing on a collaboration. “She should humble herself and make a phone call and say, ‘I’m sorry.’ She knows what she’s sorry about,” the producer told MTV News. In addition, American Idol judge Simon Cowell said that with a performance that poor, Spears would have gotten the boot from his reality show. “She wasnt ready for that show in every possible way,” he said. “The problem she has now is that she could have killed her career.” As a brutal bonus, US reported that her abs didn’t come from the gym, but from a spray tan.
Thursday everyone was talking about how Spears ditched rehearsals to toss back a drink or a dozen with Diddy in Vegas. In addition, bizarre reports surfaced indicating a Palestinian terror group threatened to behead Spears (and Madonna) for their proliferation of “Satanic culture” (come on, is lip-synching “Gimme More” badly really grounds for decapitation?) Today, the Spears legal team swung back into action for a hearing related to the star’s custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline. This week both of her sons had birthdays, too: Sean Preston turns two today, and Jayden James turned one on Wednesday. Her only defenders during the past five brutal days? Kanye West, Backstreet Boy AJ McLean, her cousin Alli Simms and this nutty dude. Here’s hoping the sun comes out next week, Brit.
