Okay…so it's not really a collaboration
Okay…so it's not really a collaboration, but DEAR TONIGHT vocalist Ryan Duffy has certainly cranked up the band's hip hop street cred a notch or with his recent interview of rapper 50 CENT on VBS TV.
In the span of twelve minutes, Duffy (whom Best Week Ever blog affectionately refers to as some hipster dude who evokes a very "Topol in Fiddler-esque" quality) and Fiddy discuss dietary supplements, channeling criticism and his non-competition with Kanye West. We also get to see Mr. Jackson making fun of camera man / Dear Tonight drummer Dan's tattoos.
All in all, a pretty damn entertaining episode of VBS Meets... which you can enjoy here. Unfortunately it's probably as close as we'll ever get to a Dear Tonight / 50 Cent collaboration.
Also, check out Duffy's other show on VBS TV, Practice Space, which he produces and sometimes hosts. You'll find interviews and live footage with bands like Against Me!, ****ed Up, Regina Spektor, El-P and The Walkmen.
When he's not brushing elbows with hip hop icons or impersonating a rabbi, Duffy handles vocal duties for Brooklyn's Dear Tonight whose debut full-length We're Not Men was released earlier this summer by Red Leader Records. Fans of dynamic, incendiary punk-fueled hardcore take note: Dear Tonight's sociopolitical commentary and undeniably visceral attack evoke a sense of excitement and urgency that is sorely missing in today’s hardcore scene.
