When we last reported on Radioheads cryptic messages, lovingly dubbed “Worm Buffet Code” by the diehards at RH fan site At Ease, the band had revealed that the song “Bodysnatchers” would likely appear on their seventh album, due out in 2008. Since then, the arrival of more codes has become a daily occurrence, with the translations shifting from the vague (“Considering Dissemination”) to the confusing (“Xendless”). Todays post, however, might be the most revealing one yet. The characters seen above, when decoded, spell out the words “MARCH WAX.” We interpreted this to mean that in March, there will be “wax,” which is semi-hip vernacular for a vinyl record, but in the CD era, the term “wax” is commonly used to denote any medium of music (see reference: OutKasts “The Rooster”).
What stands out strangely, though, is the two-level structuring of the word “Wax.” The “Wa” stands alone, yet the “X” is exiled to the lower tier, obviously more prominent and seemingly more in focus. Its our theory (and bear in mind, its just a theory) that the “X” has a dual meaning, both as a letter and a Roman numeral. We read the message “March WaX,” and if youre connecting our dots, were hedging our bets that a new Radiohead album might come out on March 10th, 2008. By the way, March 10th is a Monday; the day albums are released in the U.K.
In a post that took slightly less intuition to unlock, Radiohead placed a message on Dead Air Space yesterday entitled “Im stuck in the tardis,” the opening line of the song “Up On a Ladder,” which debuted at a Portugal concert back in 2002. The lyric was accompanied by a blurry photo of Thom Yorke singing. The file name on the picture was, fittingly, “upontheladder.jpg,” leading many RH fans to believe this abandoned song has been resurrected and will join the aforementioned “Bodysnatchers” as another LP7 definite.
