Duran Duran Take On Broadway, International Tourism

First Duran Duran made a porn-tastic video for the Justin Timberlake-assisted “Falling Down” (listen to it here), the first single from their November 13th album Red Carpet Massacre. Now the band is changing direction and taking on both Broadway and … international travel. Today Simon Le Bon and Co. announced they’d be fulfilling a life-long Broadway dream (really) with a two-week residency at New York’s Barrymore Theatre on 47th Street. The engagement will begin November 1st and run until November 13th, and Duran Duran will be playing Massacre in its entirety, “as well as classics such as ‘Rio, ‘Save a Prayer, ‘Hungry Like the Wolf and ‘Ordinary World,’ with magnificent production values and a completely new stage show.” And now that they’re doing legitimate theatre (ahem), the Israeli Tourism Board has approached the band to ask to use their 1981 song “Tel Aviv” (a lesser-known instrumental track) in a 2008 tourism campaign. Le Bon reportedly penned the song after working on a kibbutz during a late-Seventies visit to Israel, but no word on whether it’ll soundtrack ads for beautiful Jerusalem anytime soon.
