Soundstage: Lily Allen and Hilary Duff on the Big Screen, Plus the ?American Gangster

Welcome to Rock Daily’s column tracking rock on the big screen. Stay tuned so you dont miss the next Walk the Line, The Doors or, yes, Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
  • Lily Allen will get a chance to show us if she can act as well as she blogs in the new Pride and Prejudice spoof Jane Austen Handheld. The Brit-pop singer will play Lydia Bennett in the Austen adaptation, with Russell Brand starring as her lover and Mr. Darcy nemesis George Wickham. Surprisingly, this isnt the first time Allen has been on the big screen. She appeared as a lady-in-waiting in 1998s Elizabeth, produced by her Oscar-winning mother Alison Owen. Allen will start filming this spring.
  • Hilary Duff is set to star in the teen interracial romance Greta. Duff will play the title role of a waitress who falls for an ambitious cook (Evan Ross) at the restaurant where they work. In the film, Duffs grumpy grandparents have a problem with her mixed-race love (grandma is played by the fabulous Ellen Burstyn). Music video director Nancy Barawil will be making her feature film debut. We totally bet they get together in the end.
  • The soundtrack to Ridley Scotts American Gangster, the movie that inspired Jay-Z to penn a hundred songs in two hours, will be released on November 6th, but we got a (not so early) look. Heres a sneak peek at the lineup:
1. “Do You Feel Me” (Anthony Hamilton)
2. “Why Dont We Do It In The Road?” (Lowell Fulson)
3. “No Shoes” (John Lee Hooker)
4. “Across 110th Street” (Bobby Womack)
5. “Stone, Cold” (Anthony Hamilton)
