BET Awards Shocker: Kanye Actually Wins and Keeps His Ego in Check

Heres two words you thought youd never hear in the same sentence: “Kanye” and “modesty.” At this weekends BET Hip-Hop Awards, Kanye West, a noted award-show loser, actually won the Best Hip-Hop Video award for his Daft Punk-infused, anime-inspired clip for “Stronger.” When West came to the podium to accept his award, he uncharacteristically told the audience on hand (and the viewers at home when the ceremony airs this Wednesday, October 17th) that UGKs “International Players Anthem” was more worthy of the award, and told UGK and OutKasts Big Boi, who features on the track, to come onstage (”I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to win an award I shouldn’t win,” he said).
After the initial shock that the win didnt cause Kanyes hat size to grow three sizes, UGK and Big Boi took the stage and thanked Kanye. Ultimately, the duo graciously told West that he deserves the award, West finally accepted it with their blessing, and the three men left the stage happy: Kanye because he damage-controlled some of the leftover spillage from his post-VMA tirade, and UGK and Big Boi because they know “International Players Anthem” will likely go shooting up the Billboard digital sales chart thanks to this free Kanye promotion. No report on Kanyes 9/11/07-sparring partner 50 Cents reaction, as his “I Get Money” was nominated and, keeping with the trend, lost to Kanye.
