Welcome to Rock Daily’s column tracking rock on the big screen. Stay tuned so you dont miss the next Walk the Line, The Doors or, yes, Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
  • Matt Dillon is set to play Leonard Chess, the founder of Chicagos Chess Records, the label behind Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and Etta James. Their Eyes Were Watching Gods Darnell Martin wrote the script and will direct the period piece, which is set to begin filming in January in New Jersey and Chicago. The film will chronicle the ups and downs of Chess Records and Chess, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
  • Superbads Michael Cera will co-star with Kat Dennings (The 40-Year-Old Virgin) in Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist, a dramedy based on a novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan about two bridge-and-tunnel teenagers who fall in love while searching through New York City for their favorite bands unannounced show.
  • Its release is a mere week away, but the movie that inspired Jay-Z’s new album American Gangster has already leaked from an Oscar screener copy.
