Critics haven’t had a look at torture-porn flick Saw IV yet, so Peter Travers reviews Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead by Network director Sidney Lumet, which he calls one of the best films of the year, and the Anthony Hopkins-directed experimental film Slipstream. Audiences will be most surprised by Dan in Real Life, a gentle romantic comedy that has Steve Carell competing with Dane Cook for Juliette Binoche, but offers a nuanced, more complex take on the genre.
