  • Evidently, five different versions of Zeitgeist wasn’t enough, so Smashing Pumpkins are reissuing the three-month-old album yet again, with one unreleased song and a “making-of” documentary DVD. Zeitgeist, Part 6: The Silver Cover will be available exclusively at Best Buy, which was previously the exclusive home to Zeitgeist, Part 3: The Mustard Cover.
  • In a last-minute pinch for that perfect Halloween costume that isn’t Bob Dylan-related? Grab a sixer and a pack of cigarettes, draw tattoos on your arm, dress in a wife-beater, wear your hair in a beehive and you’ve got this season’s hot costume: The Amy Winehouse.
  • Sixties psychedelic songwriter Donovan plans to open the Invincible Donovan University, a school that will teach students how to smoke banana peels the principles of transcendental meditation, in either Glasgow or Edinburgh, Scotland. Donovan was inspired by filmmaker David Lynch, who fronts his own foundation that teaches meditation in U.S. schools.
  • Hoping to stave off imminent extinction, record stores (and oddly, supermarkets) have begun selling those iTunes digital cards we told you about, glossy postcard-like redeemers that allow buyers to purchase an activation code for a specific album. Similarly, record labels are set to release “ringles,” which is a physical CD single coupled with the ability to download the single as a ringtone.
  • Despite being what could be considered an easy target for cranky music critics, the early buzz on Britney SpearsBlackout is surprisingly positive. The AP even called it “her best work ever.” The public will have their chance to decide when the album hits stores tomorrow. Until then, get an eyeful of our Blackout fake album cover gallery.
