Perhaps you’ve heard of an obscure pop singer named Britney Spears. Rolling Stone’s Christian Hoard points out that Spears has always had a lot of assistance on her records, and major help in the form of flashy production from Pharrell and “Toxic” helmers Bloodshy & Avant goes a long way on her so-called comeback album Blackout. It’s a twenty-first-century dance-pop album that manages to address Spears’ recent problems without melodrama, and its plastic aesthetic is appealing without being too revealing.
