Bruce Springsteen, Conan OBrien, Robin Williams and Lewis Black performed at New Yorks Town Hall last night at a benefit for the Bob Woodruff Fund, which raises money for wounded soldiers. OBrien emcee’d the event, which teetered from the emotionally moving (a video of Conan and injured TV journalist Woodruff visiting with severely wounded veterans) to the ridiculous (Robin Williams imitating a talking baseball as he imagined Dock Ellis hallucinating during the infamous 1970 no-hitter he threw on LSD). Springsteen, the sole musical act of the evening, played a three-song acoustic set consisting of “This Hard Land,” “The Devils Arcade” and “Thunder Road.” After the performance, his 1991 Harley Davison was auctioned off for $85,000. The bike was hauled out onstage by a crew of burly stagehands, and though Springsteen announced he was prohibited from turning the bike on, he revved it up anyway to the crowd’s amusement.
