Chesney and Underwood Score Big at CMAs, Sub-Pop Expands Music Store, Hip-Hop Takes O

• Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood took home top honors at last night’s CMA awards. Chesney won his third straight Entertainer of the Year trophy while Underwood picked up Single of the Year for “Before He Cheats” along with Female Vocalist of the Year. Paisley nabbed two awards, for Male Vocalist of the Year — his first in the category — and Music Video of the Year. Other big winners included Rascal Flatts, who won the Vocal Group of the Year award for the fifth time.

• Kevin Federline is forcing Britney Spears to return to court so he can motion for a restriction on her driving rights. Us Weekly reports Federline plans to claim Spears — who has not tested positive for drugs previously — could not be reached within an hour of receiving a recent court order for a drug test.

• Seattle based Sub-Pop records has drastically expanded its digital music store, making close to 200 full-length albums from bands including the Shins, Band of Horses and Iron & Wine available for just $9.90.

• L.A. club the Roxy is allowing any Writers Guild members currently on strike to attend shows that are not sold out for free, as long as the writers show their union membership card. “Writers, like musicians, are here to entertain the world,” the club’s owner said.

• Manhattan Criminal Court was rap central yesterday as Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule, Lil Wayne and Remy Ma all appeared to face charges (in separate cases). Rhymes, who is facing four different trials on assault and driving-related charges will return for jury selection on January 23rd, while Ja Rule and Remy Ma are due back December 5th, and Lil Wayne — who was arrested on illegal gun possession in July — will return to court February 25th.
