Jonah Matranga - New single
Not About A Girl Or A Place December 4, 2007, 12:29 AM JONAH MATRANGA releases his tremendous new single ‘Not About A Girl Or A Place’ on 14th January 2008 through Xtra Mile Recordings. The second single to be taken from his critically acclaimed album ‘And’, ‘Not About A Girl Or A Place’ is a 12-string sing-a-long romp that could just as easily have come from The Pretenders or Tom Petty as from the former front-man of bands such as Far, Gratitude and onelinedrawing/New End Original. A classic example of Jonah’s ability to deliver genuine and introspective lyrics alongside music which is full of hooks and indisputable passion, ‘Not About A Girl Or A Place’ features the drumming expertise of Sam Siegler (Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, CIV, Glassjaw and Rival Schools) and was produced with Ian Love (Burn, Rival Schools). The video to accompany the single is a hilariously gory zombie rom-com that perfectly depicts the core theme of the song – that as long as you can't kill your demons - no matter how hard you try - you may as well dance with them. Jonah Matranga is one of those people who the word "credentials" could have been invented for; it would take most musicians a few careers to do what he's done in one. He's fronted three great bands, put out highly influential records under his onelinedrawing moniker, sung on hip-hop hits (Fort Minor and Lupe Fiasco), done Sade covers with The Deftones, co-written with and produced both up-and-coming and established bands, started his own unique, homespun record label... it goes on.
Through it all, somehow, he's maintained a rare and sincere enthusiasm for the music part of the music business. He probably maintains more direct, personal contact with the people that listen to his music than any musician you know of. He'll as soon play a show in someone's house as at a big festival, and he does both with equal passion. In general, he's something of an anomaly in these impersonal, jaded times. Some stunning performances during September’s UK Softcore Tour Y2K+7 alongside everybody’s favourite folk-punk troubadour Frank Turner, Joshua English and Jacob Golden served to illustrate that after almost 20 years of playing in bands and touring the world, Jonah is currently writing and performing some of his finest music to date. A full headline UK tour is being confirmed from early 2008. Dates coming soon! “There are many that do what Jonah Matranga does, but ‘And is yet more proof that few do it anywhere near as well.” 9/10 Rock Sound “Brilliant solo debut rendered in classic singer-songwriter style…
a rare and undervalued talent.” 4/5 Q “…his voice alone is enough to melt the hardest heart and fans will still fall in love with this.” Kerrang!
